Lake Titicaca Pollution Management Project.Under a contract with Ecología y Empresa, SASA is working on the industrial and urban pollution control component of this project in the Katari river basin, implementing activities in an area which extends from El Alto and Viacha to the Bahía de Cohana of Lake Titicaca. The project is currently working on the coordination of nine intervention strategies, including: biodigesters which produce biogas from manure in the Bahía de Cohana; implementation of cleaner production activities in factories in El Alto and Viacha; strengthening local public water treatment and waste management companies through development of CDM methane capture and flare projects; and monitoring campaigns of the water quality in the river basin to enable classification of the water according to national law.
