The Miguillas Hydroelectric Project

  • Is a joint implementation activity promoted by NRG Energy Inc, the world’s seventh largest independent power producer; Nordic Power Investment AB subsidiary of Vatenfall AB, one of the largest power utility companies in Northern Europe; Compañia Boliviana de Energía Eléctrica S.A., the second largest electrical generator in Bolivia and Servicios Ambientales S.A.

The proposed Miguillas Hydropower Project (Project) is the construction and operation of a privately-owned $400 million investment hydropower plant located in the Inquisivi Province of the Department of La Paz.  This Project will reduce greenhouse gas emissions because it will displace the use of fossil fuels within the Bolivia's national interconnected system (SIN).

It is estimated that the Project could reduce around 23 million tons CO2 during the next thirty years, based on existing economic and energy dispatch models.  Currently, this project has been submitted for approval to the United States Initiative on Joint Implementation.
